Internet has impacted my life to a great extent. The idea of getting any information that I need in an easy way and staying in touch with friends and family, all for an affordable price is simply amazing! Especially, since the introduction of Internet access via phone, life has gotten much better! I am pretty sure this is the case with all of us. With the advent of affordable smart phones, mobile Internet is helping thousands of people in the remote parts of our country too.

This has become possible because of  - "Net Neutrality - Treating all Data Equally". The Internet is awesome because of this rule. The freedom of choosing what to view, read, watch or listen. You only pay for using Internet/Internet Booster.

Now, some Telecom Service Providers(TSPs) would like to break this rule!

What can these TSP dudes do?

Charge 1 rupee/whatsapp message (In spite of an Internet booster)
Charge Skype calls at  Rs.10/minute/International call
May also come up with a special recharge for watching your favorite tutorial channel on YouTube.

Basically, they get the freedom to charge for each of the services you use.

Hurts doesn't it?

Can we prevent this?

Fortunately, YES! Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is asking our opinion on this. They have published their Consultation Paper - Regulatory Framework for Over-the-top (OTT) services in which they discuss this issue. The stakeholders can share their comments to

Share this information to as many people as possible. Participate in discussions and ensure that you send that E-Mail so that your voice is heard. Because spending few minutes of your time to do this is relatively much better than whining about this for the rest of your life!

By the way, Over-the-top Services for whatsapp and YouTube is a funny name!
